The best Reggae Gold compilation in years! Maybe the best overall compilation put out in a while. No joke. They really have a pulse on what 2007 Reggae should sound like. It has a little something for everyone, a little Dancehall, a little Roots, and even some Lovers Rock.
Track 2 "This Is Why I'm Hot", by Cham & Junior Reid has to be my favorite song on the album. I just find myself turning it up every time I hear it. It say's it is the Blackout Remix, but it is not the Blackout Riddim I know, it is much better. They incorporate sound effects and some samples in it like a mixtape. The chorus is rap, but it really doesn't disturb the song and the Dj part is super nice. This song represents taking Reggae to the next level. Nuff respect to VP. This song represents my vision of the future of Reggae. Remixes will not be remixes, just tracks. Reggae is such a profound music style that fusing it with Hip Hop is great because the beats are amazing, but adding more elements making the music deeper and more complex is where Reggae is going. This track is just that.
The hook in "Bad From Mi Born" is entrancing. Munga breaking out wit a hit! There are several hits on the CD.
Morgan Heritage's "Brooklyn and Jamaica", Jah Cure's "Sticky" & Gyptian's "My Fadah Seh" are all hits. Any Reggae fan will love these songs.
Pressure steps up with his hit "Love and Affections". I love this song. It makes a great addition to the CD.
I enjoy the entire CD. I am not too hip on Track 14 "Sacrifice" by Alaine, but it is not that bad for the worst on the album. I need this one on vinyl immediately.
Oh yah, the DVD that comes with the CD is way better than I thought it would be. I did not think I would be very interested in the making of the CD cover, but it was worth watching.
