5/15/06 Big Up the Children Wookie J 6/10
I had heard Wookie J on a few songs and I am so glad he put out an album. I had been waiting for a while. Wookie J has his own style for sure. The CD grew on me over time, and I love it! His Dj style is unique and the lyrics are super conscious. He is all about niceness, the youth, the most high, and giving thanks. He is a preacher of the most high and does it through his music. He is always telling a story of his experiences.

The production is tight and the grooves have an 80's feel.

Track 5, Herbman Connection, is a direct take off of "Boneman Connection" by his mentor the late great Nicodemus.

Track 11, Yankee and Yardee, is a crazy Hip Hop Dancehall style song. It reminds me of New York rap. Kind of corny, but it is catchy.

Track 15, I've seen it happen, is my favorite. He mentions Half Pint and I love the catch " me oh me oh why". He has seen it happen again and again.

The three dub mixes on the CD are tight. The guitar riffs and high hats are dubbed out. They make me lazy.

Give Wookie J a listen. You may find a more positive, productive path and a new found faith.
